Windham Town and Ski Mountain

Centered around the Ski mountain, Windham is a historic town with plenty of food, drink and shopping options on the walkable main street. The Windham Path offers a family friendly 2 mile walking loop, while the Mountain offers plenty to do in the Summer and Fall with outdoor activities and special events and festivals. Windham also boasts a Public 18 hole golf course and driving range.

Schoharie Creek and Reservoir

[Boat, Kayak and Fishing]

Schoharie Creek and Reservoir provides clean drinking water for all of New York City, and pristine fly-fishing for visitors. Schoharie Creek is a tributary of the Mohawk and dammed by the reservoir north of Prattsville. The creek delivers some of the best brown and rainbow trout fishing in NY while the reservoir is popular for walleye as well as panfish. Recreational (non motor) boat launch sites available.

Kaaterskill Falls

[Hike, Waterfall, Views]

One of the most popular Catskills destinations in the region, the 260 ft two-tier waterfall is a must-see. The highest cascading waterfall in NY state, you can get the public trolley service from Tannersville or choose any number of short hikes to reach the viewing platform at the top or check out the base of the falls.

Town of Roxbury

Listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, The Township of Roxbury offers some great dining options and areas to explore. Self-guided walking tours through the hamlet are available. Behind the Gould Memorial Church, named for Roxbury's native son J.Gould, the American railroad magnate, lies the gem of Kirkside Park. A 14-acre public green space, once a Gould estate, is great for visitors to walk and enjoy beautiful views and spaces on the Delaware river.

West Kill Brewing

A brewery with a view, West Kill Brewery is a great spot to take a sip in the Catskills. They focus on locally grown and foraged ingredients and have many beers available to buy and taste. Enjoy local food and beer in the tasting room and outside spaces overlooking West Kill Mountain, while listening to regulary scheduled live music.

Village of Tannersville

[Food, Drink, Antiques, Mountaintop Arboreteum]

Tannersville, also known as "the painted village in the sky", is a small village in Hunter lined with brightly colored hundred year old buildings now home to great shopping. A stroll down main street offers many great dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and one of our favorite spots nearby is the Mountaintop Arboretum. A public garden, nurturing native plants and trees, it's packed with peaceful walks and trails to enjoy.

Colgate Lake and Wild Forest

[Swim, Kayak, Hike, Picnic, Views]

One of our favorite places for a relaxing dip in the area, Colgate Lake is located in the 1500-acre Colgate Lake Wild Forest in the Catskill Forest Preserve. The lake is also popular for fishing, hiking and kayaking and has beautiful views of the mountains. Head for sun-down in the summer for the perfect picnic and swim spot!

Pratt's Rock and Zadock Pratt Museum 

[Hike, Historic Site, Arts]

Pratt Rock, dubbed the Mount Rushmore of the Catskills, is a rock face with a series of stone carvings depicting the life of Zadock Pratt. Hike the easy 1 or 3 mile round-trip in Prattsville and be rewarded with a beautiful view of the Schoharie valley. Follow with a visit to the Zadock Pratt museum, to learn about the man who built the largest tannery in the world and see a variety of events and exhibits. Pop into Prattsville Art Center on your Prattsville visit for coffee and  exhibits, and see what's happening in the Upstate NY art community.

Rockland CiderWorks

A short drive to the West from Hengarth, taking you past the Schoharie reservoir and dam, Rockland Cider Works is making authentic NY cider and welcoming visitors for great days out. One of our favorite spots to visit for a family-friendly drink, great food trucks and live music and other events, the rolling valley views are beautiful on a sunny day!

MineKill Falls and State Park

[Hike, Swim, Bike, Boat and Explore]

Mine Kill Falls is a stunning series of tiered drops along Mine Kill in Schoharie County. It has easy access via a designated parking area and is located within the state park, which also boasts a free Olympic size swimming pool, hiking and mountain biking trails spanning over 8 miles as well as boat access, activities and hire on the reservoir.

Bearpen Mountain and State Forest

[Hike, Catskill 3500 Club]

Bearpen mountain is the highest peak in Greene County and one of the Catksills 3500 Club. Offering the perfect Catskills vista from the farm, it's a short drive to the multiple hikes and trail of the state forest. There are a variety of trails on offer but if it's elevation gain you're looking for, Bearpen is for you!

Hunter Mountain

[Skyride, Zipline, Bike, Hike Catskills 3500, Special Events, Views]

The Catskills' second highest peak at over 4000ft, Hunter is a renowned ski resort in the winter months that opens up a host of activities during summer and fall. The Hunter panoramic sky-ride gives you amazing views, while the more adventurous can try their hand at zip-lining or explore the many mountain bike trails. As a member of the Catskill 3500 Club there is a challenging summit hike as well as copious smaller trails to enjoy. Festivals and special events are also always on the calendar, so keep a look out!

Scrumpy Ewe Cider 

[Food, Drink, Farm]

Offering Artisanal Dry Ciders across the US, Scrumpy Ewe is an on-farm cidery in Schoharie County which makes for a great day out. Enjoy the tasting room and see the production facility and - most importantly - the sheep! An immersive farm-to-cider experience, it's located a 30 minute scenic drive through rolling farmland from Hengarth.

North/South Lake

[Swim, Kayak, Hike, Picnic, Views]

7 hiking loops, 2 lakes and an abundance of picnic spots make North/South Lake a great day out. It offers extraordinary views and scenic beauty with historical sites such as Alligator Rock, Kaaterskill Falls, and the former site of the Catskill Mountain House. The escarpment is an amazing experience, where  due to it's ice age geology an abrupt change in elevation takes you from a few hundred ft above sea level to over 2000ft in just a short easy walk. On a clear day you can view five states from the escarpment.
